Julie Mikuta, Ph.D.
Dr. Mikuta is the President of Education at the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation. Dr. Mikuta oversees the Foundation’s efforts to invest in reform initiatives within the U.S., geared towards improving educational outcomes for all students. Previously, Dr. Mikuta was a Managing Director at New Schools Venture Fund, focused on teacher preparation. Prior to that role, she served at the Center for Reform of School Systems (CRSS), leading training for school board and superintendent teams from large urban districts. From 2001 to 2014, Dr. Mikuta served as an elected member of the D.C. Board of Education, and also served as Vice President of Alumni Affairs for Teach For America. Dr. Mikuta began her education career teaching high-school science in New Orleans through Teach For America. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgetown University, where she was captain of the women’s basketball team. She also earned her doctorate at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Dr. Mikuta is on the boards of Stand for Children, New Teacher Center, and Alder Graduate School of Education.
