Dr. Alicia Alonzo

Alicia Alonzo is a professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University, where she serves as program director for the Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education (CITE) Ph.D. program. Dr. Alonzo has served as an advisor to large-scale assessment programs: NAEP (Science Standing Committee and other advisory roles), PISA (Steering Committee for US Involvement in PISA), and TIMSS (Science and Mathematics Item Review Committee). Her research includes a focus on formative assessment, with emphasis on tools and knowledge that can support teachers’ assessment practices. Dr. Alonzo earned her doctoral degree in applied physics from the California Institute of Technology and is the recipient of a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
