Innovative Assessment Solutions that Measure Student Learning in Support of Equity

New Meridian is transforming assessments to be a positive force for deepening student learning to expand quality educational opportunities for all students. By maintaining and growing large banks of premium assessment content on behalf of its state partners, New Meridian is able to rapidly design and develop innovative, cost effective assessment solutions to meet changing needs.

These include:

  • Statewide assessments that measure the skills that matter most for students’ future success
  • Interim assessments that are standards-based and flexibly aligned to local curriculum to allow adjustments to instruction throughout the year
  • Beginning-of-year assessments that measure students’ unfinished learning from the prior year

When combined into a coherent system of assessments, these solutions enable educators to be more responsive to students’ learning needs while ensuring all students have an opportunity to master critical grade-level learning standards.

Summative State Solutions

Custom test development processes are expensive and demand enormous effort, resources, and time. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) allows for freedom in defining your state’s academic standards and adopting innovative assessment designs. New Meridian’s summative state solutions—English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA/L), Mathematics, and Science Exchange—provide the opportunity for states and districts to create the assessments they need to ensure their students are preparing for postsecondary success.

The summative state solutions include secure content exchanges that enable states to participate in the development and sharing of high-quality assessment content. Educators from across participating states contribute their expertise in the ongoing design and development of rich test questions. Meanwhile, states maintain their state-specific blueprint and standards.

“Learning is never one-size-fits-all. That’s why we designed our system of assessments to give educators a deeper understanding of each student’s abilities and understanding.”

Kristopher John, Vice President of Product Strategy

English Language Arts/Literacy

The ELA/L assessments focus on critical reading and writing skills by having students read and analyze authentic texts and multimedia, research and synthesize information from multiple sources, and formulate their ideas through writing.

Mathematics

The summative mathematics assessments focus on critical thinking and quantitative reasoning skills. Students apply their conceptual knowledge using appropriate tools and procedures to model and solve real-world problems.

Science Exchange

New Meridian’s Science Exchange provides states the quickest, most cost-effective way to develop NGSS-aligned assessments. States receive a trusted partnership, science expertise, and shared content that has undergone rigorous quality assurance review.

Interim State Solutions

New Meridian offers powerful and flexible interim state solutions for both administrators and educators. Our interim state solutions measure a student’s learning and enable educators to allocate time and resources equitably and efficiently. Using the assessment’s rich data sets, states are able to develop better teaching and learning strategies and provide educational equity for every student.
