Dr. Brennan is the E. F. Lindquist Chair in Measurement and Testing (emeritus) and the Founding Director of the Center for Advanced Studies in Measurement and Assessment at the University of Iowa’s College of Education. He is the author of many articles and several books. Dr. Brennan has served as president of the National Council on Measurement in education. He received the AERA Division D Linn Award in 2020; the Career Achievement Award from the Association of Test Publishers in 2011; the E. F. Lindquist Award for Contributions to the Field of Educational Measurement in 2004; and he was co-recipient of the NCME Award for Career Contributions to Educational Measurement in 2000. Dr. Brennan received his doctoral degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
