“It’s exciting to adapt and change as we find creative approaches to the mundane and create something from the ground up.”

Courtney Stover, program manager at New Meridian, joined the team in October 2020. She manages full-scope programs while working with state education departments, including overseeing partner relationships and ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently.

We sat down with Courtney and talked about her creative approach to work, her desire to find positive change, and what #MyNewMeridianWay means to her.

What initially drew you to New Meridian?

In one word – change. I needed a change and wanted to build something from the ground up rather than working in a plug-and-play operational assessment program. I liked the idea of re-inventing assessments.

What personal connection do you have to education?

Before working at New Meridian, I was certified in Texas to teach social studies in grades 8-12 because I really wanted to make an impact on the minds of our future generations. I briefly taught Pre-AP World Geography, Political Science and World History in San Antonio before moving into project management in the assessment space. Overall, I’ve worked in the education industry for 13 years and previously worked as a senior project manager at Pearson. A few programs I worked on include the GED and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), New York, edTPA and the South Carolina programs.

“We need to ensure that our reach is purposeful and meaningful to all students.”
What does equity in education mean to you?

To me, equity in education means meeting learners where they are. Each student has a different background, different experiences, and needs support in different ways. We need to ensure that our reach is purposeful and meaningful to all students.

Which New Meridian value resonates most with you?

I appreciate how at New Meridian we envision new possibilities and pursue them. One example of this is our work on next-generation assessment. With the help of our experts, leaders, customers, and other stakeholders, we are defining, adapting, and changing the system to create something innovative that meets the needs of the people we serve. It’s exciting to adapt and change as we find creative approaches to the mundane and create something from the ground up. That’s #MyNewMeridianWay.

At New Meridian, we have a dynamic team of people dedicated to making a difference. See our current job openings and hear from another staff member, Christy Sassman, about what #MyNewMeridianWay means to her.
